"California Dreamin"

Well after what seems a considerable wait it was off to sunny California for some sun, sand and surf. Put the top down on the Mustang convertible, add the sunnies and a hat and we finally felt some warmth that we had been missing.

San Diego was a great spot and we had a lot of fun. Flights were on time for once but unfortunately our luggage was left behind in Denver. I guess you can't have everything and we were just pleased to be there.

We arrived on Friday night and after checking in to our hotel we headed down to the beach to get something to eat. On Saturday we went to 'Old Town' which is where the original Mexican community started in San Diego. It was there that we caught the double decker bus around the city. It was a great way to se the city and decide where we wanted to go back to.

San Diego is home to the US Pacific Fleet so there is a lot of naval activity around the place. We took the opportunity to have a tour over the aircraft carrier US Midway which was really good. It's hard to believe that it played a significant part in the Gulf war.
I managed to snap a photo of Gae standing beside a couple of very friendly sailors.

On Sunday we decided to get in the car and head up the coast for a look. At La Jolla (pronounced La Hoya) we saw a lot of seals on the rocks in the surf. We also took a few photos of the bridge club, I thought the real estate was a bit better than Bairnsdale.

On Sunday afternoon we also spent some time at the Coronado Hotel, it was a great spot with lots of history. The place was huge, right on the water and evidently had appeared in a number of movies in the past. We thought it would be a great place to stay the night, very classy.

We managed to spend a bit of time walking along the boardwalk but we didn't think the beaches were a patch on the Gold Coast. I also managed to take a quick photo of a boat heading home (to Aus).

On Monday we decided to drive down to the Mexican border for a look. We decided not to go across the border because we were worried about not getting back, maybe next time.
Another thing that was interesting about San Diego was that the airport was in the centre of the city. It meant that planes were landing and taking off in the city all the time.

I've added a photo albumn of our visit so everyone can share our photos. Click on the picture below to see everything.

Also check out the previous blog, 'Our Story', it's a new one as well.

Our "Story"

I've been a bit slack I know, but after a couple of weekends out and about I finally have a few photo's to share.
Last weekend we planned to go tho San Diego but a storm in Gillette on Friday closed all the roads, the airport, schools everything, so we were left high and cold and needing to reschedule our flights and accommodation. Rather than sit at home for the weekend we decided to head up to Sheridan, close to the Montana border, for the weekend.
On the way we stopped off at a fish hatchery, in a place called Story, to look at a few trout. Lot's of snow about. It was interesting to see although a lot of the fish pens had been closed because of disease.

We had lunch at a really quaint general store in Story. Not a lot else to see there but it was worth the visit.

We've rescheduled our weekend in San Diego and I'll publish those photo's soon.

We're Still Here

Hi again and apologies for not keeping things up to date.

Unfortunately since Gae arrived back from Australia we've been kept in check by the weather and haven't been able to do a lot.

As most of you have probably already heard Gae (and her luggage) arrived in Gillette at the expected time, cause to celebrate after some of our other mishaps. The flight wasn't without incident as her plane from Brisbane to LA was delayed 11 hours and she had to transfer to a flight out of Sydney so she could make the connection in Denver. The flight from Brisbane to Sydney was delayed so she had a very quick turn around there and then once in LA she sat on the tarmac for an hour and then in the customs queue for another hour meaning things were very close to get to Denver. That said, she made it and it was good to see her home.

On the weekend after she had arived home I had planned to go to the Black hills and stay over in Deadwood but the weather was terrible and we really didn't feel like tackling the interstate highway in those conditions so it ended up being a very quiet weekend. We did manage to get there this last weekend and unbeknowns to us it was Mardi Gras in Deadwood. A bit cold for G-Strings and bare chests so it wasn't much like Sydney but everyone was in a party mood and it was good fun.

On Monday we probably had the worse snow day we've had since we arrived here; it had snowed most of the night and into the day and conditions around town were prety dangerous. The interstate in and out of Gillette was closed in places and Gillette airport was closed most of the day. It's snowing again today but hopefully it will clear by the weekend.

This weekend we've decided to take a long weekend and go to San Diego and maybe Mexico so we should have some photos for our next publication. It will be nice to put our feet on the sand and have some warmer weather. We will update everyone when we get back.

Cheers
